I try to draw the model every other week. This is what I come up with...

Annual Update!
So I was showing my friend my blog the other day and I was horribly embarrassed when I realized I hadn't updated in a year and a half! Jiminy Cricket, that's a long time! I have drawn since then although I admit not NEARLY enough. The problem is I barely have time to make it to life drawing, much less scan and post. Here's a handful from the past month or two. I hope to pick this up again and make it more of a habit...
Not the greatest but had to get SOMETHING up. I drew for an hour last week and had 10 minutes to scan this morning. I grabbed some drawings from previous sessions and there's a bunch more in the book but who has time to sit in front of the Epson for an hour!
I got a comment alert the other day so I looked at my blog and realized it's been a YEAR since I updated. Holy crap time goes fast!!! For 8 or 9 of those months I didn't draw at all then over the summer we began having a model to the studio every week. Unfortunately, during most of that time I barely drew either! Things at the studio have been crazy busy with the launch of Starring You (and now Sendables) but every once in a while I would sneak into a session for 30 minutes to escape the madness. I have a few sketchbooks that I'd like to scan but who knows when. In the meantime I scanned these this morning because I just couldn't bare the fact that it's been THIS long. So... here they be!
It's been over two months since I've had a model at the studio and I'm beginning to go through withdrawl! I've been incredibly busy at work and the ladder half of the summer and most of the fall has escaped me. We've been working on multiple projects at once and, for a guy that doesn't sleep much anyway, this is the busiest I've been in my life! Since John was nice enough to give me a super plug on Drawn! I figure I better at least post SOMETHING new. These are also from the last time I had a model in. I hope to get back on schedule soon but it doesn't look like our production schedule is going to let up until after the new year...
I was inspired by my friend John Mahoney and spent the whole night drawing with a ballpoint pen. It makes complete sense, but it still always amazes me how switching tools changes everything.
Had a fun day drawing. Was in and out of the groove but even while I was out it was still enjoyable. Kept the drawings all small in the 5x8 book. Feel like next session I'll need to switch it up again. Maybe go back to brush or charcoal?
Had a fun night drawing. Picked up the pen and ink which I hadn't used in a long time. Switching mediums always makes a big difference. Whenever I come back to something it's like I'm discovering it for the first time again. Ideas that I have stored in my head about how I'm supposed to draw with it are always off and it's like starting all over again (which is fun!)
Spent most of the night drawing doing really large charcoal drawings. Occasionally I would go into my small sketchbook just to keep loose. These are the small ones and I hope to have a chance to photograph some of the big drawings soon. Going back and forth like that really keeps things fresh.
Had a model in last night for the first time in 3 weeks! Had my mind set on drawing big and messy but I left my monster pad at home so I was forced to draw in my little 5x8 pad again. It's great to have to switch gears like that because all my preconceived ideas about the night flew out the window. (Angela is a fantastic model which always helps too!)
Forced myself to only use ink and brushes last night. Feel like I've been falling into the same old habits with my drawing so I figured switching tools would force me to try new stuff. Hadn't drawn with water and brushes in a long, LONG time and it was really awkward at first. By the end of the night I was enjoying it (even if the drawings didn't show it!) Maybe next week I'll stick with it for a bit, see where it takes me...
Haven't drawn in a LONG time. Just wrapped up a big project that had us going 24/7 for the past 3 months. Was really nice just to draw for the sake of drawing again. It was just me at the studio today and the model had to split early so I took the time to FINALLY photograph some of the big charcoal drawings. These are from today but will hopefully be posting older drawings over the next few days/weeks. Was REALLY rusty but it kinda forces you to do new things. The biggest disatser is when all the drawings start to look the same! Then it's less like "drawing" and more like trying to make pretty pictures. Always have to remind myself to keep LOOKING.
Rough night of drawing. Never really got my head (and eyes) into it. We're so busy right now that I had to finish off color keys and review emails between poses. Not what I would call a relaxing night of drawing. Oh well. There will always be a few stinkers...
I would love to photograph some of the big drawings and post them up here next to the little ones. Maybe someday I'll get around to it. (Here's to having no time!)
Switched back and forth between my trusty 5x8 sketchbook and a gigantic pad with charcoal. It's interesting switching scale and tools during the same session. It made me try different things with the pencil and the charcoal. Drawing is so much fun.
Scanners on the fritz but wanted to at least get SOMETHING up from 2 weeks ago. Feel like I'm starting to get "tricky" again. Been drawing the same size with the same pencil for a few weeks now. Guess it's time to switch again (but I get OH so comfortable!)
I scanned these from an old sketch book I found. Would like to scan more old drawings when I have the time but I don't have time to scan the NEW drawings!
First time I was able to scann some drawings the day after a session! Haven't had a model in in months so I was pretty darn rust at first but by thge end of the night it felt like I was "looking" again.
Been meaning to build a little site of figure drawings for a long time and finally realized I won't ever have time to do it! Everyday I try to spend at least a few minutes cruising through some of the amzing artist blogs out there so I figured why not make one myself. So here she is... For now this blog will be just to post figure drawings. I started drawing from the model again back in April and by now there are so many drawings I can't catalogue them all and I haven't scanned anything new in the past few months. I'll start by posting some of the older stuff that's scanned and hopefully when things slow down I'll be able to start photographing the big drawings and hit the scanner again for the little ones. This first set of drawings is from my very first day with a model after a REALLY long break. Must've been 3-4 years since I'd been at life drawing.
I grew up in NJ and I met my business partner at a very young age. In highschool I did pretty good but I had much more fun drawing picture so I decided to go to art school. My parents were really cool with it but my dad had this fear that I would wind up selling black velvet Elvis paintings on the side of the road. I tried my hand at the velvet paintings but wasn't very good at it. Luckily Gregg introduced me to the Interweb.
